Circus Tree: Six individual sycamore trees were shaped, bent, and braided to form this.

how the hell do you bend and braid a tree

Actually pretty easy. Trees don’t reject tissue from other trees in the same family. You bend the tree to another tree when it is a sapling, scrape off the bark on both trees where they touch, add some damp sphagnum moss around them to keep everything slightly moist and bind them together. Then wait a few years- The trees will have grown together. You can use a similar technique to graft a lemon branch or a lime branch or even both- onto an orange tree and have one tree that has all three fruits.Frankentrees.

As a biologist I can clearly state that plants are fucking weird and you should probably be slightly afraid of them.

On that note! At the university (UBC) located in town, the Agriculture students were told by their teacher that a tree flipped upside down would die. So they took an excavator and flipped the tree upside down. And it’s still growing. But the branches are now the roots, and the roots are now these super gnarly looking branches. Be afraid.

But Vi, how can you mention that and NOT post a picture? D:

Ok. As most of you know, I am a huge fan of DC comics. I love the Teen Titans and I have always been a fan of Brett Booth’s artwork. But ever since I saw his response to a critique of the new TT cover (which he didn’t even draw) I am starting to lose all respect for him. I saw him refer to the critique as the work of “just a few sheep”. I can’t stand when someone in a position like his acts like they are better than everyone else. Just because the author of the article (gimpnelly) has an opinon (OH SHIT, A FEMALE WITH AN OPINION) that differs from his, he does not need to act like a fucking toddler about it. Arguing your opinion is one thing, but calling her “sheep” is saying that her opinions do not matter and are not worth worrying over. This is the exact kind of shit that people hate about DC. They do not seem to give a shit that they alienate their readers and refer to them as meanless “sheep” when they are critical about anything.

And for the record, everything that gimpnelly’s article said about the TT cover is completely true. All of this backlash is because a woman tried to point out a few truths about what young women really look like.

It hurts to know that despite the fact that I have been a dedicated fan of DC my whole life, I am not considered a marketable audience by them and if I were to voice an opinion I would be just meaningless “sheep”.
